Eastside High School Charity Spirit Week " Wade Hampton Week " October 22, thru 28, 2011
Eastside High School (EHS) is a 3A public high school located in Taylors, South Carolina. For over 40 years, Eastside has raised incredible amounts of money through this spirit week fundraising competition with Wade Hampton. Both schools’ spirit weeks are unique in that 100% of all money raised goes directly to charities. This year, all of our spirit week proceeds will go to the Project HOPE Foundation
The History of Spirit Week: Eastside’s and Wade Hampton’s spirit weeks are very special because they were the original charity spirit weeks in Greenville County. The history behind the launch of spirit week starts 42 years ago, when the rivalry between Eastside and Wade Hampton became malicious. Wade Hampton was initially built first and when it became overcrowded, Eastside was built in 1970. This caused great friction in the area as many neighborhoods were split between Eastside and Wade Hampton.Eventually, the principals from the two schools met together to come up with a plan in order to turn the rivalry to positive. Together, the idea of having a charity spirit week competition was formed. Over the 40 years, Wade Hampton and Eastside have had a combined total of more than a million dollars donated toward worthy charities.
Last Year: In 2010, Eastside raised over $161,000 for the Upstate Homeless Coalition during Wade Hampton Week, and our goal is even higher for 2011.At the end of the week, there are no losers in the competition. The winners are the charities. The spirit among the student body and faculty at Eastside is at an all time high, but we are going to need the help of our entire community to reach our goal. Please consider helping Eastside help the Project HOPE Foundation with its goal to help children and their families with Autism.
